HowManyMothers was founded 18 years ago in Vantaa, Finland. A small group of mothers had the urge to sing together – to make music that delights, consoles and empowers both singers and their audience. All through the years the group has become well known for its’ energy, enjoyment of singing and sense of humour.
Since the early years the ensemble has grown and has now 14 members. For the last 7 years HMM has been led by Master of Music and vocal pedagogue Anne Viljamaa with her sparkled and directed grip. ”This energetic group and their burning passion to sing and work together inspires me to explore boundaries and dimensions of female voices,” says Anne. The group practices together at least once a week, in addition to which each singer visits Anne’s vocal lessons to develope their individual skills. Everyone wants to become even better as a singer and a performer.
HowManyMothers has performed in churches, festivals, private parties and various concerts all around Finland. Their repertoire varies from folk songs to love songs, old slagers to modern pop, from gospel to ethno music – and of course, Christmas carols. Year 2012 HMM released their first album – Joulu ihanin (The most wonderful Christmas); a collection of Christmas carols from their repertoire.
